Ankle Fracture

Risk Factors

Risk factors for getting an ankle fracture include:

  • Playing high energy or contact sports
  • Having weak bones - this can be caused by osteoporosis, some medications (eg predinisolone or other steroids), advanced age
  • Conditions which make falling more likely - dizziness, advanced age, heart and liver disease, poor nutrition.
