Glucosamine
- Glucosamine is commonly used to relieve the pain from osteoarthritis
- Whilst some studies have shown that it is just as effective as Non steroidal antii-inflammtory Drugs (NSAIDs)
- Overall, results are conflicting on their effectiveness
- Some of the side effects of Glucosamine are:
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
- Drowsiness
- abdominal pain and discomfort
- Headache
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Rash
- It is available from pharmacies, health food shops in a variety of salt forms, products and strengths.
- These may not be equivalent to those that are studied in clinical trials and different amongs each other
- People who are allergic to shellfish should take care when taking glucosamine
- Some Glucosamine products are made from shellfish and may contain proteins that can cause an allergic reaction
