This policy sets out how Orthoanswer content is written, reviewed and kept current. It applies to every condition and procedure page on the site.
Who produces the content
Content is written and maintained by the Orthoanswer editorial team — health professionals at Western Health, Melbourne — under the oversight of the editor-in-chief, Professor Phong Tran, Professor and Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at Western Health.
How pages are structured
Condition pages follow a consistent structure: symptoms, causes, risk factors, investigations, complications, treatment, when to seek advice, and prevention, followed by frequently asked questions. Procedure pages explain what the operation involves, who it suits, what recovery looks like, and what the risks are.
The structure is deliberate. It means a reader can find the same kind of information in the same place on any page, and it forces us to address the parts people most often leave an appointment still wondering about — particularly recovery timelines and what can go wrong.
Sources
Content is based on established orthopaedic practice, peer-reviewed literature, and the clinical experience of the surgeons and allied health staff who contribute to it. Where practice varies between units or countries, we say so rather than presenting one approach as universal.
Plain language
We write for someone with no medical training. Technical terms are introduced only where the reader will encounter them elsewhere — on a referral, a scan report, or a consent form — and are explained when they appear.
Accuracy and updates
Pages carry the date they were last updated. Content is revised when practice changes, when new evidence changes a recommendation, or when a reader tells us something is wrong or unclear.
If you find an error, please tell us. We correct factual errors promptly and note substantive changes.
Independence
Orthoanswer carries no advertising and accepts no payment for the content of its pages. No treatment, device, implant or provider is featured in exchange for money or any other consideration.
Limits of this information
Orthoanswer provides general information only. It is not medical advice and it is not a substitute for assessment by a qualified clinician who knows your history. Decisions about your own treatment should be made with your doctor or surgeon.
